On October 1, 2005, Abilities, Inc. received four Projects With Industry (PWI) grants from the US Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration to assist persons with disabilities in securing meaningful employment.
Career Options: This
project serves the employment needs of job seekers with disabilities who reside
in Nassau and Queens Counties in New York. Placement services are provided to graduates of Abilities,
Inc.’s training programs (Laboratory Assistant, Retail, Business Skills,
Microsoft Office Specialist) as well as others referred directly from the local
state VR offices.
At Your Service: Focusing on the retail and hospitality industries, this project assists job seekers with disabilities in Manhattan, NY; Orlando, FL; and Las Vegas, NV in obtaining meaningful employment. In spite of their reputation for low wage, dead-end jobs, both of these industries have a broad range of positions at all levels, offering excellent employment opportunities for people with varied skills and educational levels.
Experience Counts: Responding to the changing demographics of the US population, this project will serve the employment needs of job seekers with disabilities over the age of 45. Service sites include the Bronx, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and Birmingham, AL.
Partnering
for Placement: This project assists job seekers with
disabilities in obtaining employment and career advancement opportunities in
the retail industry in Suffolk County, NY; Atlanta, GA; and Orange County,
CA. While many consider this
industry as one that offers only low-wage/low-skilled jobs, for job seekers
with the appropriate work experience and education, there are career
opportunities that include marketing, merchandising, communications, finance,
and information technology to name a few.
